Latest Red Hat Compatible Kernel(RHCK) Not Working on OCI-C Compute (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic) (Doc ID 2414774.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 07, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Linux Cloud Service - Version Oracle Linux 7.2 to Oracle Linux 7.5 [Release OL7U2 to OL7U5]
Oracle Compute Cloud Service - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

When RHCK (Oracle) or Red Hat Kernel (Centos) is updated to anything greater than kernel-3.10.0-693.17.1.0.1.el7.x86_64 the instance won't boot any more under Oracle Infrastructure Cloud-Compute Classic.

 It will stuck here :

Changes

Image OL_7.2_UEK4_x86_64-18.1.4-20180209-231028 from OCIC comes with the following 2 kernels :

kernel-uek-4.1.12-112.14.13.el7uek.x86_64
kernel-3.10.0-693.17.1.0.1.el7.x86_64

If RHCK from oracle or Red Hat kernel from Centos is updated to the following kernel or latest version, the instance won't boot anymore .

3.10.0-862.3.2.el7.x86_64
3.10.0-862.2.3.el7.x86_64
3.10.0-862.el7.x86_64
