Df -h for root filesystem shows 100% and size as 64z

Symptoms
The root file system has become read-only on a server, and df -h shows 100% utilization, with the size listed incorrectly listed as 64Z (Zeta bytes):
e.g.
[root@test~]# df -hP /
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup000-lv_root 64Z 64Z 28G 100% / <<<<<<<<< 64Z ( its not actually Zetabytes)
