Oracle Linux 7 VM Built with Templates Will Not Save DNS Data in the /etc/resolv.conf After Boot (Doc ID 2439566.1)

Last updated on JUNE 17, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.4.1 and later
Linux x86-64

When we build a new Oracle Linux 7 virtual machine server, we can optionally install with ovm-template-config* RPMs on it which can turn this new VM into a template.
While this new VM is booting, it will ask the user to input the DNS server with IP address in a dialog to materialize the new VM.
However, the DNS configuration will not be saved in /etc/resolv.conf.
In contrast, Oracle Linux 6 virtual machine with ovm-template-config* RPMs can save the DNS configuration.

We can find the following output from the Oracle Linux 7 virtual machine server after its boot.

The /etc/resolv.conf does not contain the DNS configuration.

In this situation, the DNS configration is not saved in the /etc/resolv.conf. Therefore, the DNS service of this server may not work properly.
