Oracle VM: RHEL Virtual Machine Migrated From VMware Fails to Boot Under Oracle VM (Doc ID 2440311.1)

Symptoms

A Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) VMware virtual machine (VM) guest is exported to Open Virtual Appliance (OVA) format.
The OVA archive is then imported into Oracle VM.
However, the VM guest does not recognize the root filesystem and fails to boot.

Messages such as the following are observed on the Oracle VM guest console:
