OL: Yum And Rpm Commands Hang From Time To Time (Doc ID 2462075.1)

Sometime after a restart the yum/rpm commands hang from time to time. Only way to solve this so far is to reboot the whole machine.

The commands can be run forever or return an error after being hanged like:
