On a gluster filesystem, the unit of allocation is a "brick" so storing a 1-byte file consumes a brick, as does other file which fits into a brick. A file larger than the brick size will need multiple bricks. By default the gluster filesystem does not allow files to span multiple bricks. Thus you will see similar to:
The file data was stored, enough to fill one brick. Instead of allocating a subsequent brick, the operation returned the space error.
