Oracle Linux: AD authentication failed with error 'cannot create pid file (/var/run/nslcd/nslcd.pid): No such file or directory' (Doc ID 2484703.1)

Symptoms

On  Oracle Linux system, AD authentication does not proceed normally.  Message log as follows:

Dec 13 18:38:21 xxx nslcd[9126]: cannot create pid file (/var/run/nslcd/nslcd.pid): No such file or directory <<
Dec 13 18:39:52 xxx nscd: 2037 monitored file '/etc/resolv.conf' changed (mtime)
Dec 13 18:43:47 xxx sssd: Could not open file [/var/log/sssd/sssd.log]. Error: [2][No such file or directory]
Dec 13 18:45:15 xxx sssd: NSCD socket was detected and seems to be configured to cache some of the databases controlled by SSSD [passwd,group,netgroup,services]. It
Dec 13 18:45:15 xxx sssd: SSSD couldn't load the configuration database [2]: No such file or director
