Unable To Start Xserver with Error: "xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/oracle/.Xauthority" (Doc ID 2488609.1)

Symptoms

 After installing GNOME Desktop, Xserver does not respond to the startX  command and the below errors are seen on the console :

xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/oracle/.serverauth.16257
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/oracle/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/oracle/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/oracle/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/oracle/.Xauthority

 

Changes

GNOME Desktop X server was installed
