How to update and use latest Qlogic HBA firmware (Doc ID 2528261.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 14, 2020

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 6.0 and later
Oracle VM - Version 3.3.1 and later
Linux x86-64

There are two approaches to get Qlogic HBA firmware updated,
- one is updating the flash firmware (hardware level operation)
- another is hotplug firmware binanry file residing on File System of Operating System

For the latter option, Oracle Linux is trying best to adopt the latest version of Qlogic HBA firmware file from QLogic® and includes it into linux-firmware rpm, which contains firmware files used by the Linux kernel. With that said, under some circumstances, customer would like to use a firmware version which firmware file is not available in Oracle Linux yet.

In this document two samples are given:
- a sample of using flash firmware version
- and another one of upgrading Qlogic HBA firmware from version 8.07.00 (90d5) to 8.08.01 ( from Qlogic which has not been included in Oracle Linux linux-firmware RPM yet at the time of writing).
