Oracle Linux : Server Unable to Ping its Default Gateway (Doc ID 2546744.1)

Symptoms

Oracle Linux servers are unable to ping or communicate with any other servers in the same network or outside the network.

When trying to ping the default gateway configured on the server, the ping fails with "Destination Host Unreachable"

e.g.
[root@xxx ~]# ping <default-gateway-ip>
PING x.x.x.x (x.x.x.x) 56(84) bytes of data.
From x.x.x.x icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From x.x.x.x icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From x.x.x.x icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
