Oracle VM: Post UEK5 And Upstream 4.10+ Kernel Upgrade, DomU Hangs While Booting (Doc ID 2550384.1)

Last updated on MAY 26, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.4.2 and later
Linux x86-64

DomUs upgraded to UEK5 fail to boot on OVM 3.4.2 Servers. A known bug has been identified which affects dom0 servers on xen-4.4.4-105.0.13 and upstream 4.10+ kernels on domUs. It includes UEK5 based on v4.14.35(kernel 4.14.35-1844.5.3.el7uek.x86_64), newer RHCK kernels, newer Ubuntu and other Linux distribution kernels of that version as well. Xen implemented the TSC_ADJUST MSR feature for HVM guests, but the latest kernel expects a different initial value and adjusts the values accordingly. This causes domU to hang at boot. A new version of xen 4.4.4-105.0.19 has been released with the fix.
