Last updated on AUGUST 23, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.4.1 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

On an Oracle Linux VM, when attempting to partition a newly added physical disk from OVM, the parted application hangs immediately on I/O, and will not respond to a kill -9 command, and the parted process enters "D"  state (uninterruptable). /var/log/messages is full of repeating entries that state the following:

 kernel: xen:grant_table: xen/grant-table: max_grant_frames reached cur=64 extra=1 limit=64 gnttab_free_count=0 req_entries=2
