Oracle Linux 6 - NSLOOKUP Fails with Error "Can't Find server: NXDOMAIN" (Doc ID 2590272.1)

Symptoms

"nslookup" failed on Oracle Linux 6 server even though it's configured with proper /etc/hosts entries, also /etc/host.conf file order is "order hosts,bind" and "/etc/nsswitch.conf" has set to lookup host files.

[root@test ~]# nslookup test
Server: x.x.x.x                          
Address:  x.x.x.x#53

** server can't find test: NXDOMAIN
[root@test ~]# cat /etc/host.conf
order hosts,bind
multi on
[root@test ~]#cat /etc/nsswitch.conf |grep hosts
#hosts: db files nisplus nis dns
hosts: files dns myhostname
