Symptoms

After patching kernel of a KVM host. unable to start KVM guests:

From /var/log/libvirt/libvirtd.log we can see:

error : virNetDevSetMAC:157 : Cannot get interface MAC on 'vnet%d': No such device
error : qemuAutostartDomain:297 : Failed to autostart VM 'dewolff_sles-smt': Cannot get interface MAC on 'vnet%d': No such device
error : virNetDevSetMAC:157 : Cannot get interface MAC on 'vnet%d': No such device
error : qemuAutostartDomain:297 : Failed to autostart VM 'dewolff_fetrhel764': Cannot get interface MAC on 'vnet%d': No such device
error : virNetDevSetMAC:157 : Cannot get interface MAC on 'vnet%d': No such device
error : qemuAutostartDomain:297 : Failed to autostart VM 'dewolff_fetrhel664': Cannot get interface MAC on 'vnet%d': No such device
error : virNetDevSetMAC:157 : Cannot get interface MAC on 'vnet%d': No such device
