Oracle VM: NTP Service in Guest VM RHEL 5.5 no Syncing with the NTP Servers. ntpstat Shows "unsynchronised" Output (Doc ID 2606353.1)

Symptoms

NTP service in Guest VM running RHEL 5.5 no syncing with the NTP servers.

× The command ntpstat shows that the time is unsynchronised.

# ntpstat

unsynchronised 
 time server re-starting
 polling server every 64 s

 

× The following file shows that the clocksource is set to use time stamp counter TSC:

# cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource
tsc


× Rapidly increasing offset or jitter as per the command 
ntpq -p

# ntpq -p

remote          refid           st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
========================================================================
ntp.servers.int xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx  3 u  6    64    1   1.313 37.249  0.001
...

 

× The ntp client syncs when the ntp service is restarted on the guest, after a couple of minutes it stops synchronizing.
