Oracle Linux: xclock Fails to Start after Switching between Users (Doc ID 2608777.1)

Symptoms

xclock is failing to start when running it as a normal user coming from a root user (using sudo or su).

Sample output:

[user@hostname ~]$ xclock

Error: can't open display
