Symptoms

Running fsck to repair a filesystem fails with the following:

root@<hostname> ~]# fsck -y <device>
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
e2fsck 1.43-WIP (20-Jun-2013)
<device> is mounted.
e2fsck: Cannot continue, aborting.
