Oracle Linux: Server Running Chrony Gets Error "[Info]: Consistency check FAILED" (Doc ID 2616353.1)

Symptoms

Server running the chronyd service experienced errors with time keeping and received the following alert messages about an NTP failure when trying to sync time against two local NTP servers:

  

  

However both NTP servers are pingable from the Oracle Linux server and the chrony is correctly configured to be a client of these NTP servers in /etc/chrony.conf.


Changes

 The ntpd service provided by the ntp package was enabled, started and was running on the server when the chronyd service started to experience failures when trying to sync time or trying to restart.
