Oracle VM: OS Clock Drift on Windows 2003 and 2008 guest OS (Doc ID 2640007.1)

Symptoms

Windows guest OS clock sometimes becomes inaccurate.

The time drift has been confirmed on newer generation servers (Broadwell, Skylake) with older Windows Operating Systems (Windows 2003 and 2008).

Changes

The clock drift could happen when all of below are met.:

  1. Guest OS : Windows 2003 or 2008 (not depend on R2/SP#)
  2. Running with new CPU which has APICv feature
  3. Equal or more than 2 vCPU are assigned to the guest OS
  4.  I/O load is high on the guest OS
