Oracle Linux: NTPD Service is Logging these Messages for Every 6 Hours "ntpd exiting on signal 15" (Doc ID 2655044.1)

Symptoms

NTPD service restarts for every 6 hours.

These messages can be seen from /var/log/ntpd.log file. This file will only exist if it is defined in /etc/ntp.conf file as "logfile /var/log/ntpd.log"

1 Mar 12:46:02 ntpd[4145]: ntpd exiting on signal 15
1 Mar 18:46:02 ntpd[3054]: ntpd exiting on signal 15
2 Mar 00:46:02 ntpd[3959]: ntpd exiting on signal 15
2 Mar 06:51:43 ntpd[6236]: ntpd exiting on signal 15
2 Mar 09:35:27 ntpd[11376]: ntpd exiting on signal 15

5 Mar 11:46:57 ntpd[27686]: ntpd exiting on signal 15


These log can be seen in /var/log/messages file. Every time signal 15 is reported in ntp log file, there is a ntpd service restart is observed in messages file. 
Also, verify if there is any other service being restarted just before the ntpd service.
