Why DNS records are not resolved from the entries in /etc/hosts file ? (Doc ID 2669319.1)

Symptoms

Although the domain name entry exists in /etc/hosts file, nslookup query or ping returns the ip address from the DNS server. The entry in the /etc/hosts file is ignored.

#cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

x.x.x.x <FQDN>

# ping <FQDN>

PING domain.com (y.y.y.y) 56(84) bytes of data

Changes

 New nodes are added to the OCFS2 cluster.
