Symptoms

Unable to login as a specific user to a newly installed OL8 box through ssh

Example:

# ssh <user1>@<hostname>
user1@<hostname>'s password:
Permission denied, please try again.

less /var/log/secure
Jul 20 11:33:37 <hostname> sshd[4265]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=10.2
Jul 20 11:33:40 <hostname> sshd[4265]: Failed password for <user> from <IP> port <Port> ssh2
Jul 20 11:33:44 <hostname> sshd[4265]: Connection closed by authenticating user <user> <IP> port <port> [preauth]
