Oracle Linux 7: How to Upgrade UEK Kernel To a Newer Release (Doc ID 2740776.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 05, 2024

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.0 and later
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

Oracle Linux 7 was distributed in 1st release, 7.0 with UEKR3. After some releases it started to support other UEK higher release versions: UEKR4(in 7.3), UEKR5(in 7.5) and UEKR6(in 7.7).

When OL7 is installed from fresh the default UEK Release distributed is installed but once you update the system to another version 7.x the initial UEK is not upgraded unless configured to do so. The goal of this procedure is to make those UEK upgrades.
