Oracle Linux: Ifup BondX" Returns Error "no data available" (Doc ID 2756987.1)

Last updated on MARCH 09, 2021

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.9 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [5.4.17] and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

If two ports from two different cards are in the bond - VLAN interface on it, can't be added to bridge. "ifup bond0.XXX" returns error "no data available".

If enslave one of them - addition succeeds.

- If bond uses ports from different physical cards - it can't be added to Linux bridge getting below error:
- If bond consists only from one port, it can be added to the bridge, then second port (from different card) can be added to bond
- And such configuration seems to work. However this is not an order in which system configures network when it starts and it will fail upon reboot.

Bond mode (1 or 4) doesn't matter. tried active/backup with same results, i.e. it has to be bond over ports from same physical card.
