Goal

This document describes how to back up and restore KVM-based Virtual Machine (VM) guests [running under Oracle Linux 7/8] using the virsh command line utility.

The process is recommended for standard VM images created using .qcow, .qcow2, etc. file formats.

This document is not recommended for OLVM environments.

The terms Virtual Machine (VM), guest, and domain are used interchangeably throughout the document.
