(Doc ID 2889126.1)
Last updated on SEPTEMBER 05, 2022
Applies to:
Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.9 and laterLinux x86-64
Goal
Under certain circumstances, it may be necessary to temporarily add or remove an IP address to or from an existing Network Interface (NIC).
Such instances may include:
- Bringing up an IP address that fails to automatically instantiate at boot time
- Adding additional IP addresses despite a lack of dedicated network hardware
- Removing a duplicate IP address that was erroneously instantiated within the network
This document describes how to temporarily add, then remove, an additional IP address to an existing network interface (NIC) without modification of configuration files or server reboot.
