OLVM: Unable to Enable "Secureboot" even After Setting Chipset/BIOS type to UEFI Secureboot (Doc ID 2917298.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 07, 2023

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 8.5 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [5.4.17] and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

On an Oracle Linux virtual machine, "secure boot" not getting enabled after setting the VM's Chipset/Firmware type to "Q35 Chipset with UEFI SecureBoot".

Note: this issue is  reported only on OVLM 4.4.x with OL8 KVM hosts.

For an existing VM with chipset “Q35 Chipset with UEFI”, changing it to “Q35 Chipset with UEFI SecureBoot” has no effect on the “Secure Boot” state on the VM’s BIOS and the OS.

Changes

Changed Chipset/Firmware of a running VM to “Q35 Chipset with UEFI SecureBoot” and powered off/on.
