OLVM 4.4: How to disable Kernel Same-page Merging (KSM) on a specific KVM host (Doc ID 2943016.1)

Last updated on APRIL 17, 2023

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 8.5 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [5.4.17] and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

There is no separated systemd unit for ksm, thus parameters are controlled in pseudo-filesystem /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/:
On OLVM GUI -> Compute -> Clusters -> Edit Cluster -> Optimization -> KSM control not checked:
# cat /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/run
0

On OLVM GUI -> Compute -> Clusters -> Edit Cluster -> Optimization -> KSM control checked (and set KVM to maintenance mode and activate again for sync up):
# cat /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/run
1

Under scenario that a specific KVM host requires disabling Kernel Same-page Merging (KSM) instead of all KVM hosts in a cluster (for instance, only one VM requires "Optimized for: High Performance" with all other VMs in same cluster not.), what is the recommended way to do it?
