Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 8.2 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [5.4.17] and later

Symptoms

System running with Exadata image 23.1.4 with Linux 5.4.17-2136.318.7.1.el8uek.x86_64 is reported to be running out of memory and if the problem is severe enough, Oracle Clusterware will initiate the reboot.

From /proc/meminfo Slab Cache is found be occupied with lots of memory and in the following output, 279G memory is occupied out of 1T system memory. This is huge number as kernel data structures in slab caches are small memory occupiers as compared to data pages.

The pagesperslab is 8 and each task_struct slab is 8*4K=32K. The total usage is 7958377*32K=242G
