Oracle Linux: SSSD Causing Slowness in Listing Files and WinSCP Connections (Doc ID 3046216.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 12, 2024

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

On Oracle Linux 7.x server, ls -la command and WinSCP connections are slow or timing out when browsing a data directory of AD which contains UIDs that no longer exist in the server. These old user files are maintained for record purpose.

Here are some examples of the directories with a numerical value for the user because that user has been deleted from AD.

When trying to connect to the directory containing directories with unknown UIDs, WinSCP returns errors that the host is not communicating. When trying to do an ls -la to this same directory, it takes a very long time to get a response.

After stopping sssd service, both of the above issues are solved. Also, if the username is updated to a known user (for example, root) then the ls -la command and WinSCP respond in a timely manner.
