Oracle VM: How to Configure 'xm console' Access for Guests (Doc ID 579413.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 04, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 2.1.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The 'xm console' command used to connect to a guest virtual machine (domU) console from an Oracle VM Server does not work as expected. The terminal seems to hang until the 'Ctrl+]' key sequence is entered to detach from the domU console e.g.:

# xm list
Name                         ID        Mem     VCPUs      State      Time(s)
52_HVM_OEL4U7_x86             1        500         2      -b----        89.5
Domain-0                      0        543         2      r-----        74.4

# xm console 1

Note: To get the grub splash screen in serial console, either to click "Launch Serial Console" via Oracle VM Manager GUI(recommended) or execute command to manually start VM with console " xm create -c <DomU-config>"
