Symptoms

One of the prerequisites for installing the Oracle RDBMS product is the libstdc++.so library.  Using the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN) up2date(8) tool to determine the RPM package providing that library shows:

# /usr/sbin/up2date --whatprovides libstdc++.so.5
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386

Using that information to install the necessary RPM package fails:

# /usr/sbin/up2date compat-libstdc++
