Oracle VM: DomU (guest) Crashes when Running 'xm mem-set' Command (Doc ID 738181.1)

Last updated on JULY 11, 2011

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version: 2.1.1 and later   [Release: OVM211 and later ]

Symptoms

An Oracle VM Virtual Machine guest (domU) may crash (panic) when running the 'xm mem-set' command on the Oracle VM Server (dom0), for example:

# xm list
Name                                  ID    Mem VCPUs      State     Time(s)
Domain-0                               0    543     2     r-----   254875.6
OVM_EL4U5_X86_PVM_4GB                  1   1024     1     -b----       16.2

The memory of Virtual Machines guest OVM_EL4U5_X86_PVM_4GB is increased from 1024Mb to 1200Mb e.g.:
[root@ovs /OVS]# xm mem-set 1 1200

A panic message similar to the following is observed in the system log (/var/log/messages) of the guest VM:
