Import of a VMWare ESX Virtual Machine Fails with "v2v_disk_convert: error 1." (Doc ID 761044.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 06, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 2.1 to 2.1.1 [Release OVM21 to OVM211]
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86

Symptoms

The Import of a VMWare ESX Virtual Machine fails and you find the following Error in the ovs-agent Operation Log:

#cat /var/log/ovs-agent/ovs-operation.log | grep -B 4 v2v_disk_convert

"2008-11-21 14:54:21" ERROR=> v2v_start(12666): failed! => <Exception: <Exception: v2v_disk_convert: error 1. >
StackTrace:
  File "/opt/ovs-agent-2.2/v2v.py", line 691, in v2v_start
    raise Exception(status[len('Error:'):])

Using one flat File ( a single vmdk file for one virtual disk ) for the import was only required in Oracle VM 2.1 and 2.1.1, please see <Note 467765.1> for how to create a flat File and the complete import Procedure. Oracle VM 2.1.2 natively converts VMware images.

You are using ovs-agent-2.2-59 or later on your Oracle VM Server:

# rpm -qa | grep ovs-agent
ovs-agent-2.2-59
