Error 'sg_io failed status 0x8 0x0 0x0 0x2' When Running scsi_id on SCSI Disk (Doc ID 782981.1)

Symptoms

On RHEL4/5 or EL4/5, scsi_id fails with errors below:
# /sbin/scsi_id -g -s /block/sda
 0:2:0:0: sg_io failed status 0x8 0x0 0x0 0x2
0:2:0:0: sense result too small 8 bytes
0:2:0:0: Unable to get INQUIRY vpd 1 page 0x0.

Changes

System has a LSI Logic MegaRAID card installed:
