Purpose

This document provides an overview about new features, bug fixes and enhancements delivered by Oracle Linux (OL) 5 Update 4 since OL5 Update 3.

Scope

This document covers the following topics regarding Oracle Linux 5.4 (OL 5.4).

  • Changes from upstream release
  • New packages added by Oracle
  • New packages added in this release
  • Kernel and Driver Updates
  • Technology Preview Features
  • Known Issues
  • Unbreakable Linux Support

For the latest updates please refer to the online version of release notes available at:

http://oss.oracle.com/el5/docs/

NOTE: Upgrade of Oracle Linux from a beta release is not supported. Further, in-place upgrade between major versions of Oracle Linux is not supported. Oracle does not recommend to upgrade from earlier major versions of Oracle Linux though anaconda provides an option do to this upgrade. A fresh installation is strongly recommended rather than a system upgrade between major versions.
