Why does Campus Solutions force CATALOG_NBR format to be 'nnnnxxxxxx' - with First Four Digits Reserved for Numeric Values Instead of Allowing all Character Values? (Doc ID 1053967.1)

Last updated on MARCH 10, 2022

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise CS Student Records - Version 9 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Why is the Catalog Number value formatted such that the system reserves the four left digits exclusively for numeric characters, and the right six digits for both alpha and numeric characters (nnnnxxxxxx)? A field edit enforces this programming, which prevents the saving of catalog numbers that begin with zeros - for example, '00064' is saved as '64'.
