E-WL: Use of WebLogic 10.3.x with Reverse Proxy Server (RPS) (i.e..e. HttpClusterServlet) Causes Hang After Entering Signon Credentials. Due to Session Stickiness Issue. (Doc ID 1453462.1)

Last updated on JULY 27, 2022

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.50 to 8.53 [Release 8.4]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When accessing the PeopleSoft application via WebLogic RPS (i.e. using HttpClusterServlet), there are problems logging in: the signon screen is successfully displayed, but after entering user id and password, it hangs.

If you check the application server log (APPSRV_MMDD.log) during the hang, you will see that it is constantly logging these "GetCertificate messages:

If you view WebLogic session activity, via the WebLogic console, you may notice that there are thousands of active http sessions.

The issue occurs only if the WebLogic RPS is configured to forward requests to two or more PIA's. If you change the WebLogic RPS to use just one PIA, then everything is ok.
Also, if you directly access the PIA (instead of accessing it via RPS) everything is ok.
