E-IB: Get "No response received from Gateway" and/or "Appserver is down (or not responding)" with "bea.jolt.ServiceException: Invalid Session" on Ping Node or Inbound Message in PT 8.52+ (Doc ID 1458577.1)

Symptoms

On PeopleTools 8.52 or later, with basic Integration Broker setup done, up to the application server Jolt connection configuration for the local node in Gateway Properties.
Application server host and port are verified to coincide with a working PIA configuration, the gateway can be pinged successfully, and Load Gateway Connectors works.

However Ping Node or receiving an inbound message triggers errors, as follows:

Changes

 Seems to be specific to PeopleTools version 8.52 and later, as in version 8.51 similar setup gives a different error message, see Doc ID 1299743.1
