E-PIA/SEC: How to Transform a Public User Into an Authenticated User in PIA Public Sites (Doc ID 1527506.1)

Last updated on MARCH 18, 2024

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.52 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Standard used Public user sites and setup - like the one used in HRMS Candidate gateway for publishing the HR "Careers" component - are most of the time limited to:
- A single specific language (user cannot select the language for accessing the page even there are multiple languages installed) – multiple sites (one for each language) would be required to achieve such goal

- These public sites don't implement “out of the box” the PIA standard browser compatibility warnings for end users (functionality delivered in PT 8.5x),  as far the signon page that implements this tools feature is bypassed in this setup – due to this some external applicants might live under impression that any browser or device can be used to access these sites, and this might trigger various complaints caused by browser compatibility issues

- The public user that bypasses the signon in PIA is never presented with a time-out warning, and moreover, setting the public user “HTTP Session Inactivity” too “low” in webprofile, might end in an expiration page error (in latest 8.5x tools releases) and present to the external users the standard PIA signon page, and this is not always desired for such external sites.

-The public user that bypasses the signon in PIA is never signed-out

For such goal a customization can be used to implement such desired standard tools features for external sites

Please note this is a “working in progress” document while this exercise doesn’t cover all implementations, and also was not tested in all possible customer scenarios, but it can give a new flavor to implementer dealing with similar task.
