Can the 'Usage' Field in Compensation Alerts be Used to Send Emails? (Doc ID 1576953.1)

Is it possible to change the 'usage' for the compensation alert (Set Up HRMS, Product Related, Compensation, Utilities, Compensation Alert Definition, Compensation Alert Definition) to send the message as an email instead of display on the Manager Self Service page?

We are not using the AWE (approval Workflow Engine)  set up  for our compensation cycles; but want to send emails when the various events are triggered in the process. As an example, the user wants to send an email to all people with the access type of 'Submitter' when a compensation cycle is opened (Event Code is OPN).

The PeopleBooks for Maintaining the Alerts Text Catalog, for the Usage field, says 'select one of these values based on how the text will be used: Email body, Email subject, Error/warning...'
