E-SES: Search Fails with Message "An error has occurred while performing search...." and errorLog.html shows Error "Invalid facet..." (Doc ID 1582357.1)

When running a search from the Global Search Bar, the following error is displayed:

Other symptoms:
-If running a search from the "Search Test Page", it works just fine, even for search categories that are not working from the Global Search Bar
-Also, issue occurs despite a successful deploy and build of the search definitions. A redeploy and rebuild of search definition does not fix problem.
