Symptoms

Failed SQL stmt: INSERT INTO PS_TL_WRK234 (PROCESS_INSTANCE, EMPLID, EMPL_RCD, DUR, SEQ_NBR, PERIOD_INSTANCE, PERIOD_SEQUENCE, TL_QUANTITY, TA_COUNTER, TL_QUANTITY2, TL_QUANTITY3, TL_QUANTITY4) SELECT DISTINCT A.PROCESS_INSTANCE, A.EMPLID, A.EMPL_RCD, CAL.START_DT, 0, A.RULE_ELEMENT_1, 0, SUM(A.TL_QUANTITY), 0, B.STD_HOURS, 0, 0 FROM PS_TL_IPT34 A, PS_TL_PROF_WRK22 B, PS_TL_CALENDAR CAL WHERE A.PROCESS_INSTANCE = 2135137 AND A.PROCESS_INSTANCE = B.PROCESS_INSTANCE AND A.EMPLID = B.EMPLID AND A.EMPL_RCD = B.EMPL_RCD AND B.EFFDT = (SELECT MAX(Z.EFFDT) FROM PS_TL_PROF_WRK22 Z WHERE Z.PROCESS_INSTANCE = A.PROCESS_INSTANCE AND Z.EMPLID = A.EMPLID AND Z.EMPL_RCD = A.EMPL_RCD AND Z.EFFDT
Process 2135137 ABENDED at Step TL_TA_RULES.OI_OTOIL.Step30 (SQL) -- RC = 12899 (108,524)

If I add a TO_DATE(date, 'DD-MON-YYYY') mask around CAL.START_DT, it inserts OK. Also if I remove the field from the GROUP BY expression and add MIN() around it, it also works but neither of these steps should be necessary.

Both the columns used DUR and "CAL.START_DT" have DATE datatype.
Database version already mentioned is 12.1.0.1.0
