Symptoms

Remote Navigation Collections imported or manually copied into Portal Interaction Hub are throwing "Site name is not valid" errors in a few scenarios.

Scenario 1:

- Login to HRMS
- Main Menu > PeopleTools > Portal > Portal Utilities > Navigation Collections
- Create a new Navigation Collection
- "Add Folder"
- Folder Type: "Menu Folder"
- Select any folder, for example: Self Service > Payroll and Compensation
- Save
- "Publish Navigation" tab
- Check "Navigation Page"
- By default, it'll be in EMPLOYEE > Root
- Save
- Confirm that the Navigation Collection is now created under the Root Main Menu.
- Login to Portal Interaction Hub, create two Content References (CREFs):
i) Copied Navigation Collection CREF from HRMS directly
ii) Followed <Note 652608.1> to create the CREF in Portal
-Now test by going to either of the Navigation Collection content references on the Portal side
-Clicking on any of the links will give error:
Site name is not valid.  Check your url syntax and try again.

Scenario 2:

A) First, created a new Navigation Collection was created from scratch on the HRMS side for testing, using:
- Login to HRMS
- Main Menu > PeopleTools > Portal > Portal Utilities > Navigation Collections
- Add Collection
- "Add Folder"
- Folder Type: "Menu Folder"
- Select: Any Folder where it contains more subfolders, and CREFs.
Examples:
PeopleTools > Security
PeopleTools > Utilities
- Save
B) Now publish it as a pagelet in Pagelet Wizard in HRMS
C) Import the pagelet in Portal using Unified Navigation WorkCenter.
- Main Menu > Portal Administration > Unified Navigation WorkCenter
- Left Pane: Unified Navigation Setup > Select Remote Content
- Click 'Import/Synchronize' for the remote node.
D) Enable the pagelet on the homepage with Personalize Content on Portal
E) You shall now see the navigation collection pagelet on the homepage.
F) Now click on any of the *folders* such as Utilities/Security
G) That folder's navigation page appears
H) If you then click on any of the links/folders on the page, you'll get error:
Site name is not valid. Check your url syntax and try again.

In both cases, one notices that the URLs generated by the Navigation Collection is not correct.

For example, it may generate:
http://portalserver.com/psp/HR91/EMPLOYEE/EMPL/c/...

When it should be:
http://portalserver.com/psp/PA91/EMPLOYEE/EMPL/c/...

Namely, the site name is incorrectly switched to the content provider site name, instead of keeping the Portal side site name.

Sample replication screenshots attached (1, 2).
