Information in this document applies to any platform.
Some customers make use of the PeopleSoft Enterprise FSCM Resource Management module with an extensive pool of Resources, with over 80,000 Employees in some cases. In the system, with such high volumes, some of the defined Resource Groups may contain Resources in the thousands of Employees each. Whenever Express Search gets used, and such large Resource Groups are defined in the search criteria, the performance of the Express Search functionality would be extremely degraded.
As such, in order to improve overall system performance, the technical team lowered the 'Buffer Resultset Size', at the Verity Settings tab from Search Configuration set up page for Search Type RSFSR, from 9999 to 300. With this change, the performance improved, but a new problem was detected: The results listed are badly sorted. See example here below:
- Express Search is to be for Keyword values
- A Resource Group that contains 10,000 Employees has been selected for the search
- The listed results will only be displayed in chunks of 50 lines
Since the Buffer Resultset Size is set to 300, and the page only displays the first 50 lines, the best matches and with a higher Qualification %s among the first 300 Employees gets displayed in the first page. However, they are not all the potential matches. On scroll page #7, which will contain the results from 301 to 600 Employees of the Resource Group, there the system displays new potential matches.
Verity Search divides the Resource Group of 10,000 Employees in chunks of 300, as per defined Buffer Resultset Size, and then calculates the best Resource matches according to the criteria selected within that sub-group, displaying the results accordingly.
The way Express Search is working, the best suited Resources matching the search criteria defined could be placed in scroll page #27, while all the scroll pages in between have Employees with Qualification %s of 0%, and even the first initial set of results displaying lower percentages. This makes the Verity Search functionality quite useless in the event of looking within a large amount of Employees (Large Resource Pools, or Resource Groups).
The Express Search functionality should display the best suited Resources at the top of the list of results, not at scroll page #26.
