E-PORTAL: Enabling SSL and using SSO on Portal Interaction Hub while passing through a Cisco ACE Load Balancer, causes various navigation and pagelets errors, or missing images, or controls like buttons not working in remote content pages (Doc ID 2022956.1)

Last updated on APRIL 04, 2025

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PRTL Interaction Hub - Version 9.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Environment:
------------------
PeopleTools Release: 8.53.15 or above
Application Release: HCM 9.2, ELM 9.2, PIH 9.1
Load Balancer:  Cisco ACE Load Balancer

Problem Statement
-----------------------
Customer is implementing HTTPS for PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 and PeopleSoft iHub 9.1, both on PeopleTools 8.53.15, using SSL on the Cisco ACE Loadbalancer while terminating the SSL at the Load Balancer level

After switching to ACE CISCO LB configuration the following issues were seen:
• Navigating from Portal iHub to HCM in https through the Loadbalancer does not work
• The pagelets of HCM in Portal iHub show an error: "Error getting content"

Various other links in ELM are giving missing images in pages an controls / buttons not working

Fiddler captures a particular Fiddler internal error 504  (not a http 504 error) where it says "The server did not return a complete response for this request. Server returned 0 bytes.  " - this points to an incomplete response received and/or stripped http headers

Bypassing the Cisco Load Balancer and using  with the same architecture there was no problem detected. This only happens when implementing the Load Balancer setup.
