E-IB: HTTPS Connection to Third-Party System Fails if Certificate CN= Value has Only Domain, and Neither Hostname nor Wildcard

(Doc ID 2060022.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 29, 2015

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.50 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Integration Broker connects to a third party over HTTPS, and this worked while the target server certificate's Common Name used wildcard, like CN=*.company.com

However after the target's certificate renewal to one that has just a domain name, like "CN=company.com", the connection fails every time showing the below error:

java.io.IOException: HTTPS hostname wrong:  should be <hostname.company.com>, but cert says <CN=company.com, ...

What is causing this failure and how to fix it?
