Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The Description field in the grid of the Tool Usage page only displays a correct description whenever the Asset Management Business Unit has the exact same value as the Maintenance Management Business Unit.

Business Impact:
This gives an inaccurate description.

Steps to replicate:

1. Navigate to the Basic Add page in the Asset Management module
2. Search for Business Unit US002
NOTE: Business Unit US002, Asset ID EX_000000001, described as a Saturn, is not the same tool as Business Unit US001, Asset ID, EX_000000001, described as a Tahoe. The Asset IDs are the same, but they are definitely different assets. Also, EX_000000001 is not a tool in AM BU US001.
3. Select asset id EX_000000001.
4. Assets require both a type and a subtype in order to be used as tools. On the General Information tab, set the Asset Subtype field to AUTO if it is not already entered.
5. On the Operation/Maintenance tab, check the checkbox labeled Use As Tool
6. Save.
Note: You may get a warning message about changing type and subtype combinations for existing tools. Since this asset did not already exist as a tool, the warning is not relevant.
Second Asset Setup: Non-Matching Business Unit, Non-Matching Asset ID
The Maintenance Management Business Unit in demo is US001. This section creates an asset that uses an Asset Management Business Unit other than US001. The asset that gets set up below does not have an asset ID that matches the asset ID from a different tool in AM BU US001.
7. Navigate to the Basic Add page in the Asset Management module
8. Search for Business Unit US004, Asset Type Equipment
NOTE: Business Unit US004, Asset ID EX_JV0000099, described as a Telephone, is unique to Business Unit US004 in this example. There is no Asset ID EX_JV0000099 in AM Business Unit US001.
 9. Select asset id EX_JV0000099
10. Assets require both a type and a subtype in order to be used as tools. On the General Information tab, set the Asset Subtype field to TELEPHONE if it is not already entered.
11. On the Operation/Maintenance tab, check the checkbox labeled Use As Tool
12. Save.
Note: You may get a warning message about changing type and subtype combinations for existing tools. Since this asset did not already exist as a tool, the warning is not relevant.
Technician Workbench Setup: Prepare Search View
13. Navigate to the Technician Workbench
14. Under View, use a Search View that uses MM Business Unit US001
