E-SES: Unable to Ping SES Located Behind a Virtual IP (Doc ID 2172727.1)

Goal

We had Oracle SES Cluster setup and it is all good. PeopleSoft HCMDMO instance uses this SES Cluster. SES Cluster is on node1.server.com and node2.server.com

In order to have SES cluster to properly fail-over in the event of a failure on Node 1, we want the connection to fail over to Node 2. To achieve this, we have create a VIP as below:

VIP:- LB alias vip.server.com should direct to physical servers
node1.server.com (10.1.9.77) port 19200 and
node2.server.com (10.1.9.78) port 19200

FYI, 19200 is the port for search_server1 on node1.server.com and 19200 is the port for search_server2 on node2.server.com.

As per this VIP, today we tried changing the Search Engine Details (under Search Instance page) to have the following


setup:-
SSL Option: Enable
Host Name: vip.server.com
Port: 443

Upon saving this page, we tried to "ping" the Search Engine. It failed with the error as below:


We could telnet the VIP host name 'vip.server.com' over port 443 from the HCMDMO Webserver box to the SES servers.

Why is this happening?
