How the Approval Framework for TL Approval handles a vacant position, and if the roll up is supposed to work correctly in this scenario?

ie
- employee A in position A reports to employee B in position B who reports to employee C in position C
- employee B gets transferred to position X
- position B is now vacant.

Can the process handle this scenario and and set the approver to employee C?
